Landmark of the Monon. The Michigan City Freight House. Located east of Franklin Street and north of Highway 12, this was the end of the Michigan City Branch. This building also served as a passenger depot when passenger trains ran on the branch.

Thank you for those...this is the first time I have seen the Michigan City freight house "in context" with some surrounding buildings and detail. Images of the "front" end and side are easy to come by, but I can't recall ever seeing an aerial shot before. It helps a lot in understanding how things were laid out.

Did the MC freight house point "north and south" or is it off at an angle to the direction the branch comes into town? That's another bit of "context" I've never seen drawn or pictured...

The front of the building faced west. This should help.

Here is another aerial look at the area south of Michigan City Harbor. This shot was taken from the top of the Hoosier Slide, a 275 foot sand dune where the NIPSCO Power Station now sits. I have labeled some of the key points of interest.
