Monon-PRR Meet
« on: June 22, 2014, 09:23:20 am »
This photo of a Monon-PRR meet was recently on eBay.

Any ideas about the time and place?

The photo (taken by Dick Baldwin) is on the east side of Indianapolis Union Station at IU Tower. The photo shows The Tippicanoe  arriving from Chicago as it passes The American a PRR east bound train for Harrisburg and New York.

Thanks, Steve.  Don't know how a Dick Baldwin photo got into the hands of an eBay seller.

The photo appeared in one of Don Ball's books. I would say someone copied it.

Steve,

Good guess.  I wonder how many other photos selling on eBay were copied out of books?  These days scanners are very high resolution.  I guess it's "buyer beware".

George:

Scanners these days are almost TOO good to copy photographs from books. If you're willing to take the time and deal with the huge image file size, it's easy to get resolution enough to reveal that a shot came from a printed source instead of film...
