South Hammond freight house photos
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:14:31 am »
I'm going to model a small version of the freight house @ S. Hammond. I have seen several photos showing the office area. I'm interested in the shape of the warehouse, type of truck doors, and general design of the structure. Signs, fork lifts, water coolers, and other photos would be helpful.

Also, did Rick have his name on the office door ?

Thanks

Gene, the MRHTS archives contain many drawings of the SH freighthouse.  Nothing about forklifts or water coolers though.

Thanks Tim

I'll be sure to look in the archives my next trip to WHQ.

We sometimes tend to overlook the small details---fork lifts- water coolers- floor coverings, and vehicles-----and people---

The 1954 Annual Report has a two page spread with some interior and exterior photos describing the new freight house.

Gene,

The drawer with the drawings for the construction of that building have been scanned and will soon be available on CD for viewing on your computer from the comfort of your command center.

An inventory of drawer 4 made (by my wife & me sometime prior to 2006) on one our several weekends spent at Ed Lewnard's when he "allowed" us to come and visit "his" Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society drawings. The following entries were on the eight sheet inventory (about 30 or so  items per page).

Note that after Ed gave up "ownership" and they were moved from Lafayette to Linden the order of drawings was not kept as there I opened the files up for members and guests to search them, make copies, etc.
