Robert Joseph "Bob" Durnal, age 87, of Bloomington, died Saturday morning at the Richland-Bean Blossom Health Care Center. Born September 3, 1927 in Monroe County, he was the son of Lee and Lucille (Johnson) Durnal.
Bob served our country in the U.S. Army and upon returning home, he worked for the Monon Railroad, L & N Railroad and retired from C.S.X. where he worked in the Bloomington switchyard. He was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Men, a member of the former Bloomington West Lions Club, now the Bloomington Lions Club where the Melvin Jones award was bestowed upon him by the club for his countless number of volunteer hours and his faithful membership and he also was a 45 year charter member of the Traveling Turtles camping club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Phyllis (Hahn) Durnal, of Bloomington; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Shelby Durnal, of Bloomington and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Virginia David, Lois Polley and Janice Durnal.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday (12/8) at St. Paul United Methodist Church; 4201 W. Third St. with Pastor Frank VanAllen officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Monday from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
