William H. Mobley, age 85, of Bloomington, died Friday morning at the Hearthstone Health Center. Born June 3, 1929 in Bloomington, he was the son of Estes and Alice (Dodds) Mobley. He was a 1947 graduate of University High School. He retired as a conductor for CSX Railroad, formerly the Monon and L&N railroads where he worked from 1951 to 1988.
He was a long standing member of Clear Creek [not allowed]ian Church, Masonic Lodge #22, Eastern Star and the Bloomington Shrine Club. He had served as the first treasurer of the B&B Water Corporation that was instrumental in providing city water to the Unionville area. He enjoyed woodworking, raising beef cattle and especially enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer (Roger) Owens, of Bloomington and Elaine (Bob) Reed, of Alexandria, Indiana; his twin sister, Betty Riggle, of Northbrook, Illinois, one brother, Buren ("Toots") Mobley, of Spencer, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Mona Mobley, of Bloomington; two granddaughters, Julie (Brad) Barrow and Amanda Langley, both of Bloomington; two grandsons, Matt (Heather) Reed and Ryan (Patty) Reed, both of Bloomington and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Martha (Hill) Mobley, in 2006, his parents, one infant son, William Steven Mobley and one brother, Robert Mobley, in 2013.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. with Pastor Glenn Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
