Found this obituary in the NWI Times. I don't know what position Louis held with the Monon but he is on the employee list. He worked at South Hammond.
LOUIS J. SARNECKI
CROWN POINT, IN Louis J. Sarnecki age 85, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Lois Morelli-Sarnecki; children, [not allowed]ine (Bob) Sutliff and David Sarnecki; granddaughter, Mary (Taylor) Bowditch; great-granddaughter, Adelaide Bowditch; step children: John, Lanan and Debra; brother, Walter Sarnecki; many extended family members and dear friends. Preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Etta (nee Kerchner) Sarnecki; his parents and nine siblings. Louie was born and raised in East Chicago, IN and graduated from Catholic Central. He proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 369 in East Chicago, IN.
Louie retired from the old Monon Railroad in Hammond, IN. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and the great outdoors. Louie was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched. The family extends a heartfelt 'thank you' to the staff at St. Anthony Nursing Home for their tender care of Louie and Lois. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel 7535 Taft Street Merrillville, IN with Rev. Patrick J. Kalich officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral chapel.
