New Monon Models on Shapeways
« on: July 20, 2016, 11:07:16 pm »
Good Evening Friends,

I just commissioned a Shapeways 3D printing designer, AlwaysSolutions (Mike Shawgo), who has produced designs for me for the iconic South Hammond city water tower (backdrop for many photos at South Hammond Yard after the mid-50s) and the Monon's standard concrete milepost.  You can benefit from my investment by buying whichever one you prefer.  While the water tower is a bit pricey at $310.78, the mileposts are an absolute steal at $2.93 for ten.  Just go to Shapeways.com and search for Mike's shop (AlwaysSolutions) or search on Hammond Water Tower or Monon Standard Mileposts for links to purchase these.  (You might have to register first, but it's well worth it for access to hundreds of unique 3D printed items).

Thought you modelers might like to know . . .

The two Monon-related 3D printed models I mentioned in the previous post are now uploaded and available for purchase at Shapeways.com, as is a third - a model of the Monon's iconic illuminated depot sign.  All three can be purchased at Shapeways.com (just search on Monon and you'll find them).  The mileposts and depot signs are very reasonably priced.  While you're there, you steam- and transition-era modelers will want to check out Mike Aufderheide's gondola ends.  Great design work, Mike!

What other things would you like to see?  Maybe coke containers for the 40' gondolas?

Shapeways has 3D printed Monon Bay Window Cabooses for sale in HO, N and Z scale. If you are looking for one, check out their web page.

A few years ago I got a friend of mine who has a computer controlled milling machine to cut parts for N scale Monon rider cars and transfer cabooses. I'm his Monon influence. He wanted to try sending files to Shapeways and the HO scale rider car is one of them. Someone recently asked him to put it up for sale, and that's why it is now available on shapeways.com.

Stew,

The price is a real bargain!  An Overland brass car just went for 225 on ebay.

Anything from shapeways is printed in grainy plastic and you have to paint and decal it, add trucks and couplers. I have one Overland passenger car and it has great detail, but you don't have the fun of finishing it.
