South Shore/Monon News

News tidbit from Passenger Train Journal issue 2016-4 #269: “The Federal Transit Administration has given the green light to the West Lake Corridor, a southern extension of the South Shore Line to southern Lake County.  The initial phase of the project would be a nine-mile line from the Munster and Dyer area to Hammond, primarily USING THE FORMER MONON TRACKAGE AND RIGHT-OF-WAY."

When we bought our first home in 2014, I had no clue as to the railroad history that existed just a few steps away from our front door, nor did I have any clue that commuter service would be brought to us. I've been documenting the construction since the beginning in a very amateur sort of way.
