It is with a heavy heart that I must write that a long time passionate member of the Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society and passed away after losing his battle with cancer. When I was the President of the MRHTS Jim Wolfe worked overtime in the background to help me get things done. He hosted most of our websites on his own servers "HoosierNetwork" for many years. He did all of this for free because he believed in our society. He jumped in and built this very Monon Board discussion board when Indiana University notified us that they were going to migrate away from the "Listserves" we had be using for many years. It was Jim who maintained this site as far as authorizing new members etc. A few of us could also moderate individual posts or house keeping as we called it.
He is going to be missed a lot more than most will know. His work ethic was second to none. His obiturary follows:
Mr. James B. Wolfe, 58 of Medaryville, formerly of Fulton County, passed away at 3:46 AM on Monday, January 1, 2018 at LaPorte- IU Hospital.
On March 12, 1959, James Brian Wolfe was born in Huntington. He was the treasured son of Courtney and Marjorie A. Wallace Wolfe. Jim grew up in the Mexico and Macy areas and graduated from Caston High School in 1977. He was a proud member of the Army Indiana National Guard from 1977 - 1985. Jim was honorably discharged with the rank of Army Specialist 4.
In Medaryville, on May 24, 2002, Jim married the love of his life, Geneva Elizabeth Waddle. They enjoyed more than 15 years of life's adventures.
With a strong work ethic Jim worked in maintenance and machine repair at Caterpillar of Lafayette for the past decade. While residing in Fulton county he was a member of the Union Township Fire Department as a firefighter-EMT. Jim also served our county as a sheriff's deputy. His memberships included American Legion Post # 96 of Medaryville, the Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society Inc, Tip Wa Antique Tractor & Engine Club of Walton, and the National Rifle Association.
As a railroad buff, Jim and his dad, Court built a railroad track on the family's property near Nyona Lake. More recently Jim restored the Monon antique scale model train that accommodated up to 20 passengers. As a photographer he also created an interesting portfolio of railroad related images including landmarks, bridges and various perspectives of track.
Left to cherish the memories of Jim are his wife, Geneva; daughter, Holly Zartman and husband Paul of Rochester ; two step- daughters, Jessica Tharpe and husband Chris of LaPorte, Hannah Czarnecki of Medaryville two sons: Chevy Wolfe of Kewanna, James Wolfe Jr of Medaryville; two step-sons, Daniel Timm of Valparaiso, Matthew Timm of LaPorte; sister: Pattie Wolfe-Newgent and husband Craig of Fort Wayne, father and mother -in-law, Harry and Joyce Waddle of Medaryville; two sisters-in-law, Crystal Waddle of Knightdale, NC, Maddie Calvert of Francesville; two brothers-in-law, James “Jimmy†Waddle and wife Tarrie of Deland, FL, Harry Waddle Jr. and wife Andi of Deland, FL; Aunts Margaret Wallace and Marilyn Cook both of Ft. Wayne, Uncle Bill Wolfe, Peru; Uncle Reggie Wolfe, Mexico; Uncle Ron Wolfe, Fort Wayne; Aunt, Patsy Plaue, Corydon, and Aunt Sharon Staller, Auburn. many grandchildren who adored Grandpa Jim several nieces and nephews; canine companion, Max a buff colored Cocker Spaniel. Preceding Jim in death are his parents Court and Marge Wolfe and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A celebration of the life of Mr. James B. "Jim" Wolfe will be 3:30 PM, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester. His family will greet friends from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
