Monon and K&IT Interchanges

In early 1970, I was still in school and was employed by United States Steel as they had purchased the Gunnison plant on Charlestown Road in New Albany. I was in the receiving office and it seems I recall the K&ITRR bringing boxcars and flatcars to the warehouse often.  Did the Monon ever make those deliveries directly or was the interchange with K&IT the common practice?
