New Albany Industries
« on: January 21, 2021, 09:01:57 pm »
I am wondering if anyone from the New Albany/Floyd County area would have a photo of the Paramount Plywood factory, 2720 Grant Line Road or the Davison Chemical (WR Grace Chemical) fertilizer plant, 2820 Grant Line Road, New Albany.  A photo of these or maybe a taker car that Monon would have used.

I don't have any photos, but the plywood plant was just recently torn down/burned down, and they are building apartments on the site now.  You can still see the plant on google maps though.

Also, check out:

You can view old aerial photos going back to 1955.  It looks like the plywood plant's general outlines haven't changed that much.  You can also get an idea of the chemical plant and the track leading into each.

If you are going to model the plywood plant, don't forget the elephant they had painted on the wall.  It was there as long as I could remember (which only goes back to 1986).  If you move south down Grant Line you can still see it in on one of the warehouses.

Steve, That was the Chester B. Stem plant that burned recently.  Paramount Plywood was next door to the north of Stems. Thanks for your reply.   Davison Chemical was just north of Paramount.

Sorry about that, I looked at the GPS and didn't pay attention to the name.  New Albany had too many plywood plants :-)

Which MRHTS CD might show when as rail connection is added to accommodate a business?  In 1953, a rail addition was performed to connect Davison Chemical to the main line in New Albany just north of Stems Co.  This is about 1/3 mile south of McDonald Lane.
