Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society
  E-News & Notes Vol. 2022-3
13 NOvember 2022

Election News - Just to update you on the 2022-2023 elections.  There were no election ballots sent out this year as the number of open seats matched the number of candidates.  Officers are Ron Simunic Vice President, George Carpenter Treasurer, Don Toon Secretary and I remain your President for another year.  Board members elected to a  two year term are Jamie Stewart, Frank Van Bree, Rick Dreistadt, and Dave Morrison. Rick and Dave are new to the board.  Board members whose term expire in 2023 are Mike Benham, Steve Long, Don Toon, and Lee Wheeler.  Since Don Toon accepted the secretary position, one  seat to be filled.  That open seat was filled as per the by-laws, at the November 5 board meeting, with Joe Crnkovich again joining the board of directors.  Joe is lifetime member number 4, a retired railroader who is  extremely knowledgeable of Monon operations.  We are pleased to have Joe back on the board.

Stores Department - Recently I was talking to one of our members who had just purchased a back issue of our society magazine The Hoosier Line on eBay.   He paid $24.95 plus 5.95 shipping for the issue!  We have back issues of almost all THLs for sale at a much reduced price!!!  Sales from our Stores Department help pay the rent so please consider checking with us if you need back issues.  Go to www.monon.org, click on Monon Store then The Hoosier Line magazine and you will be able to see back issues for sale.

Correction - In the last issue of the E-News I reported that one of our members made a generous donation to the archives of val maps from the quarry district that we did not have.   His name is Chris Stone and I mistakenly wrote that it was David Stone.  My apologies Chris and thank you again for the donations.

Mini convention 2023.  Our first mini convention held last April was so successful that we plan to do it again this spring!  It will be held at the Depot in Salem, IN again on APRIL 15, 2023!!!!

Membership Dues - Yes it is that time of the year again.  Unless you are a lifetime member, please consider paying your dues in the near future.  A form is attached or you can pay online at www.mononmembership.store . Thanks.

ATTACHED TO THIS ISSUE - There is only one attachment in this edition and it should be of great interest to society members.  It is a gem from the archives, a 1958 program for a tour given by the Chicago & Western Indiana and the Belt Railway of Chicago.   The Monon Railroad was one of five railroads that shared ownership of the C&WI.  It is an 18 page document with detailed historical information. Unfortunately the referenced map in the report was missing and on page 15 part of the narrative was also missing.
