Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society
E-News & Notes Vol. 2023-3
15 June 2023

The Stores Department - We ordered 25 Jordan Spreaders to sell through the company Store, and we sold out!!  However, we have received another shipment, so if you would like to order the Monon X-15 Jordan Spreader please go to the Company Store at www.monon.org/store.php and place your order.  We also still have some of the ACF Monon cement hoppers produced by Accurail.  These also can be ordered through the company store.  If you do not wish to pay for shipping you can pick one up at the RPM modelers convention in Collinsville, IL July 28 and 29 or the NMRA Franklin, IN train show the weekend of August 5 and 6.  The Stores will also be at the upcoming Louisville area train shows, the Danville IN and Lebanon IN train shows.  (One of the attachments to this edition of the E-News is information concerning the upcoming RPM meet).

2023 Mini Convention - The 2nd annual mini convention was held this past April 15 and was another successful event!  We had two excellent presentations in the morning from Rick Driestadt and Mont Switzer.  It also added much needed revenue to our finances.  We plan to have another mini convention in the spring of 2024 in Salem.

Donations - I want to thank Society members Authur Sturbaum, Jay Bowman and John Dryden, who recently donated their Monon HO model collections to the MRH-TS.  We use these donations to promote our railroad and our hobby at train shows, our online store, the mini convention and also at our annual convention.  The proceeds from these donations have helped greatly to offset our expenses to operate the society.  Thank you, gentlemen.

2023 Convention - Speaking of conventions, our annual convention is not that far off, September 29, 30 and October 1.  It will be in Bedford, the Limestone Capital of the World.  Reservation forms were mailed with the May issue of The Hoosier Line magazine.  Our convention is still a bargain at only $100, which includes two catered meals, guest speakers, and a bus trip to ride the French Lick Scenic Railway on Saturday.  We will also visit the Larry O’Connor MONON collection on display at the French Lick West Baden Museum.

Rolling Stock - The society has owned several pieces of Monon rolling stock over the past three decades. Today, the reality is that we can no longer afford  the equipment and there is no one willing to perform much needed maintenance.  The most recent insurance invoice was $3,753.90 and that is the minimum amount.  If we were actually using the equipment, the cost would be higher.  After reviewing several proposals, the board voted on May 20 to donate our business car, the Lynne, and the caboose 81532 to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson, IN.  Additional information will be shared in the August issue of The Hoosier Line magazine.
