Monon Railroad Historical-Technical SocietyE-News & Notes Vol. 2023-4
12 September 2023
As of this writing, our Annual Convention and Meeting is two weeks away, September 29, 30 and October 1. So far we have 46 paid members who will be attending our convention in Bedford. Space is somewhat limited so if you plan to attend please get your registration form in as soon as possible. Remember you can download the registration form on our website, at www.monon.org. You can also contact our convention chairman, Ron Simunic, at simunic22@att.net or 812 322-7306.
We still have a few of the Walthers Jordan Spreaders for sale through the company Store. We sold out the first batch that we ordered, so if you would like to order the Monon X-15 Jordan Spreader please go to the Company Store at www.monon.org and place your order. We also still have some of the ACF Monon cement hoppers produced by Accurail. These also can be ordered through the company store. If you do not wish to pay for shipping, you can pick these HO models up at our Annual Convention!
If you are looking for MONON BRASS, check out the Member’s Classified Ads section. Past president and one of the original society members, Don Kaegebein, has some rare and very hard-to-find Overland brass models for sale.
Director Dave Morrison and I have been discussing a new modeling project. With 3D printing, practically anything can be created today. Reproducing one of the historic Monon limestone depots would be a worthwhile project, so we are considering producing a 3D printed depot in HO scale, if there is enough interest. If you are interested in this project, let us know which depot you would be interested in, either 1) French Lick, 2) Bedford, 3) Bloomington, 4) Lafayette or 5) Monon. We can only produce one kit at this time. Plans and photos for these depots are in the archives, so this is a doable project if there is enough interest. Email me at jimcraig5185@gmail.com and let me know.
For the first time, the Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society was represented at the 2023 RPM (Railroad Prototype Modelers) meet in St. Louis. We learned that there are still many modelers interested in the Monon Railroad. Monon model kits were sold to other modelers representing 17 states other than Indiana. One of the clinics we attended was presented by one of our members, Seth Lakin. His presentation covered Monon train number 57, Michigan City to Lafayette on 12-16-1964, and he modeled every car in the consist! If you wish to view his presentation simply go to Youtube and type in Monon Train 57 Michigan City to Lafayette. This is a very informative PowerPoint offering.Jim C Attachments:09-02-1925 Murdock track extension for ILCO PM&B quarry01-03-66 New Albany switcher
These T-shirts will be for sale at the Annual Convention. They will also be available through the Company Store after the convention. This shows both the front and back view of the shirt. The price is $25.00
