This is a test.  Ron tried earlier to post this photo and got an error message. I reduced and renamed it and it posted.

When was this picture taken?  Unless my eyes deceived me that is a hood unit diesel behind it!

Ron can correct me, but I believe that this is at the KI&T Yard in Louisville, just prior to the decommissioning of the locomotive. The last Monon steam to be retired.

Lee,  It looks like another steam locomotive in the background to me with the windows closed.  Then tender is to the right, I think.

#95 was originally #35 until early 1948 when it was renumbered to make room on the roster for the first six BL2's.  It was Monon's last steam locomotive in service, retiring in June 1949.

Tim's correct, June 28, 1949 to be exact, and I think that this picture was probably taken on that last day but I don't know that to be a fact.  I do have a B&W photos in the archives that was taken for sure that last day, or at least it was so dated.  Incidentally, this photo is from the collection of Larry Boyd.  / Ron

Here is a photo of Steam #95 before being re-numbered #95. I believe this might be a Walter English photo originally.

I have a shot of 95 apparently freshly washed -- the bright yellow paint really glistens.

Just prior to dropping its fire, 95 was repainted with bright yellow lettering and the large script lettering.  That set was also available as an HO decal.  I sent a scan many moons ago but I don't think anyone noticed.
