Bedford Depot
« on: February 27, 2012, 01:20:43 pm »
Where did I see the drawing for the original Bedford Depot ? I thought it was on this board but I can't find it. But what a location that was right in downtown Bedford, Talk about ease to get to the train if you were a traveler. Does anyone know why they decided to move ? Traffic, To small ? Vic

Maybe it was to be closer to Epies Hamburgers?? Here a photo of the original Bedford Depot from Lloyd Kimble. Posted by Vic Kepshire

Nice photo, Vic!  Hadn't seen that one before.  Obviously taken from the top of the county courthouse.

The one of the Epies wreck I have seen before.  It was very close to the mainline track (see the attached), so close that when the locomotive struck that truck on the adjacent 13th St. grade crossing, the loco pushed it right into Epies, wiping it out like a squeegee wipes rain.  Never have been sure of the exact date though.

1948 was the year Epie's was destroyed. I do not know the month or date.

Dad Seldin used to make placemats out of copies of fire maps. One year he used one from downtown Bedford that showed the original run through Station. Facinating to see hom bedford had changed

I think this is the map G3 was referring to
(placemat by Dan Seldin from 1886 Sanborn map of Bedford).

Found this article about the wreck that destroyed Epie's on Monon Newspaper Articles CD, compiled by Kieth Greasby. [CD available at MRHTS Stores]
