In 2000, I did some BOGing in the South Chicago area and found former-Monon #5. It was owned by Kinder-Morgan and was being used in their yards to move primarily tank cars to and from the dock area. K-M kept the original road number and had done some inside cab modifications. Because of the extreme cold weather in the area, they had insulated and lined the interior cab walls with plywood. They were very attached to the locomotive and kept it in excellent condition.
I have heard that K-M was sold since then, so I have no idea what happened to the locomotive over the last 12 years.
