Hawkeye track

One of those drawer 20 sheets shows a one-ended siding off the main alongside the Laf. Jct pass track, and designated Hawkeye track.  Anyone know the purpose of the Hawkeye track?

As an aside, the Lafayette sewage treatment works was across the tracks to the other side.  Not sure if there was a connection.
