My great grandfather's farm was just up the hill to the right in the photo, between the depot and Harrodsburg. To the left, the road crossed some bottom land and then went up an extremely steep hill called "Depot Hill". Guys would test their cars on Depot Hill by making a run across the bottoms and trying to make it up the hill without stalling. There was a point at which a Model T going up the hill would start to stall because of the steepness and the fact that a Model T's gravity fed fuel sytem would no longer supply fuel to the engine. At that point was an improvised turnout that would allow the driver to turn his car around and complete his trip up the hill in reverse.
