The first four F3 A-A sets, #'s 81-84, were all identical paintwise.  All originally had the gold pinstripes and the script THL's running beneath the large MONON's on the carbody sides.  The Indy trains also almost always had the ex-USA hospital car RPO's #11 or 12 on the head end.  These plus no white flags plus lots of mail indicate this is no detour.  IF it's Crawfordsville.

Note that both the 1948 and 1959 photos show a tall stack in the background.  I'm satisfied it is C'ville.

I agree Tim, it's Crawfordsville and it's Train #6.  However, don't ever believe that a lack of white flags can't be a detour train.  I've run several detour trains as the second section of a regular train, and as such didn't carry any signals (flags).  The train ahead though, which was the "real" scheduled train, would have been carrying green signals (flags).  / Ron

Sure looks like Crawfordsville to me.  I think they have the right town and the wrong train name.  Didn't the Tippecanoe and Hoosier ran with the same equipment.  The Hooser down to Indy became the Tippecanoe to Chicago and visa versa.  They usually had RPO cars 11 and 12 in the consist.

Having grown up in C'ville I would say that surely looks like the north end of the platform at Crawfordsville, and the building in the background is still there today.
