Little Dolly

From Bill Schnaiter collection. A small dolly on narrow tracks. What was it's purpose, how was it used?

I would guess a car jack was put on top of this and rolled along a rip track where needed.
There was probably one on each side of the rip track.

See attached picture of Harry Young from the Weigand collection, showing a similar dolly on narrow-gauge trackage at Shops.  I think this is a welding outfit.

This is a welding rig on the RIP TRACK.       Looks like this one has motor car wheels
I have seen photos of them being used at the wheel shop also

I watched "Birth of a Train" yesterday and when they were reconditioning the trucks, it showed two guys pushing this cart with a wheel/axle on it. The lower steps on the ends are where the wheels set.

I notice in this picture, in the center, there is a jack.  It must be used to put a foot down to keep this rig from rolling.
