Delphi Monon Trail
« on: April 07, 2013, 10:14:32 pm »
Scrolling through the April 03, 2013 INDOT letting list, I ran across this item. There will be a pedestrian bridge constructed across Hwy. 25 with enhanced access features. There were 3 bids with the lowest at just over 2 million dollars and under the engineer estimate. Can anyone provide any further information on the trail (like where does it start and stop?). Attached are some design drawings.

I have not been down there in a few years, but the old right of way, railroad south from Delphi to the Deer Creek bridge was made into a walking trail. Originally the trail was to extend across High Bridge, but I heard because of property rights and liability, it was not. With all the highway construction around there, I am not sure how much of that trail remains.

Tom,Tom,etal
This is the bridge that was donated to the Wabash & Erie Canal Association
to cross over new SR 25 to allow the trail to end at the North end of high bridge. I think that trail starts on a city street South of the NS ROW.

Sadly a construction worker lost his life when work on the south abutment (the MONON ROW) caved in and trapped him.
