I found this old postcard (1908) of Cloverdale on eBay.  I had to enhance it a little.  It shows a view of the Main Street (US231) crossing with what I believe is the crossing guard house.  I'm not sure if this is facing north or south.

The sun is shining on both sides of the buildings leading me to think we're looking north.

Definilty North as  you are looking uphill.
