Russell E. Engledow

Russell E. Engledow, 88, of Lafayette, passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014 at IU Health Arnett Hospital. Born April 6, 1925 in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of the late Charles and Anna May (Mesner) Engledow. He attended Bloomington High School and honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945.

Russell married Lydia F. Wyrick on November 18, 1950 in Lafayette and she preceded him in death on March 28, 1990. He was a conductor and brakeman for the Monon and L&N railroads for 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #11 and Old Rails. He liked to fish, hunt mushrooms, and NASCAR. He was an avid football fan and loved the Indianapolis Colts.

Surviving are his daughter, Lydia Ann Mueller of Buck Creek, and a sister, Betty Johnson (husband, William) of Nappanee, IN. Also surviving are one granddaughter and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Old Rails Memorial at 6 p.m. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens with military honors by the American Legion Post #11. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knightstown Children's Home.
