Early RS-2 Yellow Paint
« on: July 24, 2014, 11:01:57 am »
Can someone recommend a paint color for yellow in the as-delivered scheme for the first batch of RS-2s?  Wisconsin Central yellow may be close, most others don't look "buttery" enough.

This is the site for ModelFlex, they have several yellows. The actual color was Dupont Duco 246-54388

Steve,

Thanks, that is a good resource.  The WC is looking like the right one.  Either that or the Erie which looks almost identical.  Now, off to Des Plaines hobbies, the happiest place in the world!

All,

To follow up on the 'yellow' question, I picked up the Wisconsin Central yellow, sprayed it yesterday on my RS-2 and it looks just right.  Now for the pin striping!

Mike, paint the yellow areas first.  Then mask off the yellow and paint on the black.  Finally, use black decal striping over the yellow to create those pinstripes.  Way easier!

All,

Under the category "what I'm working on" see the photo attached of my nearly finished RS-2 in the yellow nose scheme.  This is a nice running Proto 1000 model with decals from the Microscale freight locomotive set and Mont's 1940s freight car set for the THL script (pieced together).  I need to install the marker light lenses and weather it.  I have not done anything with the frame or truck details yet.   I also put a sunami decoder in it with the speaker in the cab, which sounds good.  I have seen others mount them in the fuel tank, but the amount of surgery needed on the frame made me look for another location.  It was a fun project and it is cool to have it run on the local.

Great looking model! I also appreciate the yellow paint line detail on the roof, I was never quite sure if that was straight across or a tapered point ala AT&SF.
