WWI Involvement
« on: November 04, 2014, 11:40:35 am »
I recently ran across the attached photo being sold on eBay.  It shows a Monon flatcar being used to transport WWI tanks.  The date is circa 1918, but there was no other description available.  I can't make out the car#.

Are there any other Monon photos showing WWI involvement?

George,

I can't help you with the WWI era photos but the car number I think is 14193, which means it was built in 1901 as part of series 14000-14199, 40 foot.   These were retired in the '30s.  I've attached another photo of a car in this series, 14191, with a single stone column blank at Stinesville Quarry.

Mike,

Good eyes.  I couldn't quite make out the number in the photo. The original was in pretty bad shape and I tried to enhance it somewhat.
