Monon Ownership of Other Railroads
« on: June 17, 2015, 11:22:10 am »
It's my understanding that at various times the Monon owned a percentage of the K&IT, IURY and C&WI.  Were there other railroads that they owned percentages of?

Didn't "we" once own a piece of the CSS&SB as part of the plan to provide service to NIPSCO's Burns Harbor plant?  Or something like that.

Tim - you are correct. Monon owned ~ 20% of CSS&SB; divested this share in an ICC/market based deal after a failed takeover.

Burns Harbor was (is) the site of the Port of Indiana and the Bethlehem Steel Plant.

I do not believe that the Monon (or predecessors) ever owned a part of the IU Ry. a Poor's Manual would give a listing of the ownership at various times. It stated with ownership by the Indianapolis Union Stock Yards and/or Ely Lilly and finally Conrail.

The CI&L was an Indianapolis Union tenant but, never an owner.
