Is This Linden?
« on: January 07, 2016, 11:15:49 am »
A recent eBay image auction listed a Monon (?) depot in Illinois (?) in 1973.  It is shown in the attachment.  It appears to me that it could be the Linden depot.

Any opinions?

It is the Linden depot.  I took this picture at Linden in December, 1988.

Looks more like the Mitchell depot to me. Isn't it nice how people are flooding E Bay with photos they have no clue about where, when and the su[not allowed]ect, just trying to sell to make a buck.

It's not Mitchell.  The Mitchell depot's baggage room was on the other end.

I just commented that it looked more like Mitchell. There were several of the same style depot, with differences being the layout. I never said it was Mitchell, just that it looked like that style and Mitchell was the first one that popped into my brain. Sorry for the confusion.

My vote is Linden.  You can see the top of the other chimney on the NKP side.

It IS Mitchell!!!  Here's a photo I personally took at age 14 in 1955 to prove it.

The front of both depots looks identical.  The main difference would be the left rear of the building in the original photo I posted.  It looks like there is a roof extending behind the building on the left side.  If it is, that would be the NKP side of the Linden depot, which the Mitchell depot doesn't have.  It's also possible that the original photo faintly shows the NKP track on both sides of the photo behind the depot..

George is right.  It is Linden because you can see the roof line of the NKP side of the depot and the NKP crossing U.S. 231 in the background.
