Bill Eberhard

Ran across this picture today on a disc of images from the White County Historical Society.  Bill Eberhard was, of course, Cookie's and Sharon's father, and a clerk at Shops when I knew him.  He called me for a lot of trains, and he was a good guy.  He worked 3rd. shift, and in sub-zero weather he'd leave his car run all night in the parking lot so he could jump the cars of crew members coming in if their cars wouldn't start.  Sometimes in bad weather he'd even give them a ride home to keep their wives from coming after them.  I was very fond of old Bill.  / Ron

I have no idea where or when this picture was taken.  It doesn't look like it was around Monon.  I can see he is wearing a dark cap.   He always wore white shop caps in warm weather but in cold weather he wore jacket and hat made by Brown Beach Co.  I remember it because the hat & jacket was black. I know it is kind of stupid but that's me.

That looks like Monon west yards. In the background is a quanset hut that was a part of the rail plant at the north end of the yards.

You're exactly right Mark.  I can't lay my hands on the original right now, but before I cropped this picture you could see that the little door was built into a bigger door that was on the Monon engine house.  / Ron
