Not sure if this belongs here or not. Monon wreck train returns to Monon, INDIANA after cleaning up a derailment and wreck at Delphi. Sorry, but I have no date.

Could this picture have been taken at Monon with the train on the Indianapolis track? It looks like the post 1953 brick depot just across the crossing track which would be the Michigan City Branch in the foreground. The searchlight signals could be the ones for the Chicago-Louisville Main.

The (top) picture shows a tilting target (at diagonal) position plus searchlight signals in the background. The gate must be on the opposite side of the train.

The Timetable special instructions for Monon say that the gate arcoss the Third (MC) Subdivision and the target diagonal indicates route clear for the Second (IND) Subdivisiion.

My record of crossing and signals/interlocking/etc. shows
the crossing at Monon had no signals until 1930.
It had Signal, target and gate until 1960.
No signal thereafter.

At Delphi were the following:

Ball signal in 1893 (The only ball signal on th Monon System I've found so far.)
Interlocking from about 1902
Remote (interlocking) from 1958

So the picture cannot be at Delphi.

The equipment age and signals indicate it was taken between 1953 and 1960.

My records for prior to 1913 were intermittent when the list was made in the 1980's. Many older timetables have been added to the collection since then.

Bob. I went back an corrected my original post. Because, I did not put, "Monon, INDIANA" you and perhaps others obviously think I was saying this train was in Delphi. No, this train is in Monon, INDIANA. Sorry for the causing any confusion. Leaving off the INDIANA off Monon, INDIANA was my bad.

Tom,   There is no doubt in my mind that photo 1 was taken at Monon but I cannot see anything in photo 2 that would indicate that it was taken at Monon.

BTW Why does this initial posting have the red circle with "?" in it.

Both these photos were taken at Monon, In.  There is a series of about five or six of thses pictures of the wreck train arriving back at Monon.  I think they are in the Cookie stuff.  / Ron

It is just an message icon Sharon. They are right under the Su[not allowed]ect. I intended to use the exclamation point, but obviously selected the one above it, the question mark. It really means nothing.

As information, there are 15 photos in this series, and they will all be on the Cookie #5 Memorial CD which the Photo Archives Department is now working on.  It should be ready for release in a couple of weeks, and Tom Kepshire will announce it, with the details, when he has a supply in hand.   ;D  / Ron
