This is from page 150 of Richard Saunders, Jr.'s book "Main Lines Rebirth of the North American Railroads, 1970-2002":
"Southern was stunned by the announcement of CSX. It had already declared war on Family Lines by lodging a formal complaint with the ICC, alleging that Family Lines increased its ownership of the L&N from 30% to 100% without formal approval. Now, as a price for a CSX consolidation, it demanded the former Monon, having previously passed up that chance to reach Chicago."
