Southern Ry. complaints about the Family Lines
« on: July 22, 2012, 10:34:50 pm »
Group,

This is from page 150 of Richard Saunders, Jr.'s book "Main Lines  Rebirth of the North American Railroads, 1970-2002":

"Southern was stunned by the announcement of CSX. It had already declared war on Family Lines by lodging a formal complaint with the ICC, alleging that Family Lines increased its ownership of the L&N from 30% to 100% without formal approval. Now, as a price for a CSX consolidation, it demanded the former Monon, having previously passed up that chance to reach Chicago."

Oh, if only SOU had suceeded in this, Stew.  Then we'd being seeing an NS Heritage unit resplendent in black/gold or even in red'white/gray.  And maybe the south end would still be in business!   /Tim.
