Ken, you are correct about Ralph Blacketer.  He was an NKP employee even though he did operators work for the Monon.  The Monon probably reimbursed the NKP for a portion of his salary.  Some other examples, The Monon agent at Clay City was also an operator for the NYC, so the NYC paid the Monon for a portion of his salary.  The PRR operator at Limedale also handled the Monon operators duties, the P&E operator at Ames handled the Monon operators duties there.

Rick, wasn't it a yardmaster named Bill Lake that got fired for working on two railroads at the same time.  He would work one shift at Shops for the Monon, then go and work the next shift for the Wabash over on the other side of town.  He did it for quite awhile before he got caught.  He made good money while it lasted though.  / Ron

I believe you're right, Ron.  We also had an operator who worked at Dyer, I believe his name was Tim Doolin, who was also working on the EJ&E at the same time, thus violating the hours of service law, and was fired from the Monon when this was discovered.
