The first Monon diesel to be repainted was the 604 which emerged from the paint shop as L&N 2703. I first photographed it at Lafayette, then later that week I chased it from Bloomington to French Lick and back on a French Lick turn. We were lucky it was daylight because the "Lickers" were usually run at night.
A few months ago I mentioned this on the old Listserve, and someone asked if I had a photo of it on the Paoli trestle. I did, but I had no idea where the slide was at the time. I recently got a new slide scanner, and have been scanning some of my old pictures. Last night I came across all 29 photos I shot during that trip.
Here are a couple taken on the Paoli trestle. I have quite a number of good photos taken during July-August in 1971, and I'm seriously thinking of putting out a CD covering only that two month period in Monon history, so you may get to see them all one of these days. / Ron
