Today's Lafayette paper has the obituary of Stephen Michael "Mike" Short who died 2/27/2013. Mike was a reetired Monon/CSX brakeman/conductor. Paper says he had over 20 years service when he retired in 1993.

PINE VILLAGE — Stephen Michael "Mike" Short, 64, passed away at the St. Elizabeth Central Hospital, Lafayette, on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. He had been hospitalized for 1 week.
Mike was born in Williamsport, on June 6, 1948. He was the son of Julia A. (Mahoney) Short of Battle Ground and the late Jack E. Short. He was raised and educated in Battle Ground, moving to Pine Village in 1980.
Mike had worked as a brakeman and conductor on the railroad for over 20 years. He first began working for the Monon Railroad and at the time of his retirement in 1993 was working for the CSX Railroad.
Mike had attended the West Lebanon [not allowed]ian Church. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1001 in Danville, Eagles Lodge 2596, of Attica and the Sons of the American Legion Post 259, of Williamsport. He was an avid race fan and had raced both stock and drag racing cars. He enjoyed watching Seeger girls basketball.
On December 6, 1980, Mike married Sharon K. (Adams) Swisher in Pine Village.
Mike leaves behind his wife, Sharon of 22 years; his mother, Julia A. Short, Battle Ground; five children, Marci (Mick) Cochran, Anderson; Kelly (Mark) Balser, Katy, Texas; Deb (Greg) Hollenbeck, Lafayette, Susan (John) O'Leary, Fort Collins, CO and Mike (Nikki) Swisher, Williamsport; a sister, Patricia Sue (the late-Ronald) Martin, Brookston; nine grandchildren, Rufus and Lewis Cochran, Halee and Lance Balser, Josh Miller, Tyson and Mason O'Leary, Kelcey and Kiley Swisher; a great-granddaughter, Alayna Hancher; two nephews, Ron and Jerry Martin, Brookston.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Sunday, March 3rd, from 12 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Thornsbrough officiating.
Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Village Fire Department, Paw's 'n Claws Animal Shelter or to the charity of one's choice .

Message of sympathy has been posted on funeral home web site and a sympathy card has been prepared to mail to his widow.
